When a secret can either make you or break you or both
I was browsing my Netflix catalogue for something new and surprise, surprise! I found a recently added Spanish comedy that has not only allowed me to pass the time but also has made me laugh, more than I dared expect it.
On Netflix's newest and original Spanish movie, out May 3rd, A Pesar de Todo's leading ladies will play four sisters, all very different from one another that have been apart for a long time and are reunited due to sad circumstances.
A video of their late mother contains her last wish, a clause in her will that prompts her daughters to an adventure, not only to uncover the secrets hidden by their mother years ago but also a journey of self-discovery and reconnection to people important in their lives.
Netflix described A Pesar de Todo as a "zany screwball comedy" and they are absolutely right.
Imagine having everything you know about yourself and your family, torn upside down & that your mother (responsible for that tsunami of surprises) demands in her will that you and your siblings embark on a wild chase for answers or you won't get your inheritance.
If you think you would be experiencing a bundle of mix feelings, imagine these four women.
Eventually, the curiosity surpasses the pesky clause, and they all will do it to discover the whole truth.
Does their mother's expectations of reconnecting her girls go as she hoped for or will this revelation break them into pieces, leading them to be even more apart?
Well, this is a comedy, not a tragedy, so the ending is more or less as you may expect it but full of unexpected twists and turns in between.
For me, it was an enjoyable movie, that approached otherwise sensitive topics in a funny way, turning what could have become a family drama in a happy reunion.
